John McCormack, the deputy online editor at The Weekly Standard, had a great tweet yesterday, referencing the liberal TNR blog’s dig at Nixon which was entitled “Nixon: Abort Interracial Babies”.
The blog quotes Nixon musing about the availability of abortion being necessary for seemingly unintended babies of interracial sex, slamming him for “aborting interracial babies”.
McCormack’s tweet was a gem:
New rule: abortions approved by Left kill ‘fetuses’; abortions done [because] of racism kill ‘babies’.

I previously posted about the latest rash of scandalous photos coming out of Afghanistan showing U.S. military atrocities under Obama’s command, and wondering if the media would pick up on it the way they did when it was Bush’s army… Well, here’s a twist I wasn’t expecting: yes, one of the U.S. media, Rolling Stone, [...]
Jeffrey Goldberg, a correspondent for the Atlantic, cast a spotlight on yet another disgustingly overt example of pure bias in the mainstream media, particularly at the anti-Semitic Reuters newswire. He points to a Reuters news item which contains the following despicable sentences: Police said it was a “terrorist attack” — Israel’s term for a Palestinian [...]
In the [sparse] reporting of the Palestinians’ massacre of the Fogel family, several newspapers stand out with their distorted sense of “balance”, i.e., where they feel overwhelmingly uncomfortable describing the barbarity of the Palestinians without at least taking a swipe or two at the Israelis, no matter how patently irrelevant or disgustingly disrespectful it comes [...]
Good catch, although the fact remains that Nixon’s quote was pretty detestable.
I agree; it is quite detestable.
I would never justify that statement, but I will say that you still have to take it in the context of the time period, one in which sentiments of that sort were prevalent (and probably not just amongst white people either). So, while it is certainly detestable, I think his thoughts were hardly that much different than many others in the country.
Regardless, I think we would both agree, as well, that it’s a great relief our country has come a long way from that primitive kind of thinking.
As for the detestability of the statement, I find it interesting that most liberals are appalled by the racism (as I am), but barely bat an eyelash at the idea of slaughtering a helpless baby. In other words, if they just wanted to kill the baby for no reason, sure, why not?! But for racist reasons, how appalling!
