Steven Plaut, a professor, writer, and blogger living in Haifa recently posted on his blog the eye-catching headline: “L.A. Times runs a pro-settlement column!”. Naturally, I had to check it out.
While the headline was technically accurate, what he must have missed was the fact that the L.A. Times also simultaneously ran not one, but two, anti-settlement columns at the same time! And, not surprisingly, the one that got top billing was the blatantly anti-settlement one (the other anti-settlement column was disguised as a “guide to the settlements”, which was laden with anti-settlement spin).
As you can see from the screenshot above of their web site today, the top billing goes to Sarah Leah Whitson, an apparent anti-Israel Jew working for Human Rights Watch. The pro-settlement piece by Yisrael Medad, a Shiloh resident, is listed almost as an afterthought, along with another anti-settlement piece by Gershon Gorenberg, another apparent anti-Israel Jew, who deceptively disguises his anti-settlement spin piece as a “guide”.
In any case, I strongly encourage everyone to read “In Defense of ‘Settlements’”, by Yisrael Medad, as it’s a thoughtful and intelligent piece.

Jeffrey Goldberg, a correspondent for the Atlantic, cast a spotlight on yet another disgustingly overt example of pure bias in the mainstream media, particularly at the anti-Semitic Reuters newswire. He points to a Reuters news item which contains the following despicable sentences: Police said it was a “terrorist attack” — Israel’s term for a Palestinian [...]
In the [sparse] reporting of the Palestinians’ massacre of the Fogel family, several newspapers stand out with their distorted sense of “balance”, i.e., where they feel overwhelmingly uncomfortable describing the barbarity of the Palestinians without at least taking a swipe or two at the Israelis, no matter how patently irrelevant or disgustingly disrespectful it comes [...]
