Here a Czar, There a Czar, Everywhere a Czar Czar

In what is a barely transparent ploy to avoid the confirmation hearings required of cabinet positions, Obama has been appointing multitudes of people to “czar” positions, which effectively are the same advisory roles as cabinet members, but being non-cabinet positions in name, can technically circumvent any confirmation requirements.

Thus, Obama is able to bring in some of the most radical fringe lunatics into his administration under the radar, as we’ve seen with Van Jones, his “green jobs czar”. If it weren’t for the efforts of people like Glenn Beck, the truth might never have come out about Jones and he would still be pressing his frightening views on the most powerful man in the country.

Learning a lesson from this, The Hill is reporting that Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) is calling for these czars, who all have the president’s ear, to testify before Congress like any other influential cabinet member.

“If the czars have high-level, decision-making authority as their titles would indicate, then it is my concern that their appointment without Senate approval represents a circumvention of our Constitutionally-mandated confirmation process,” McHenry, who is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in his letter.

Czars were in the spotlight again after “green jobs” czar Van Jones’ resigned this weekend. It was revealed that Jones made harsh comments about Republicans and signed a “truther” petition alleging that the government played a role in the 9/11 attacks.

“His ability to slip into a position of power without due Congressional diligence only further underscores the necessity for a confirmation process,” the third-term Republican said of Jones.

However, the actual number of czars in the administration is a disputed matter. McHenry requests that all of President Obama’s 44 czars testify before Congress. But other reports put the number at around 30.

No president in the past abused this allowance of a handful of “czars” to unofficially advise him on certain matters, until Obama. The fact that no one even knows how many and who these “czars” even are is already ridiculous. Let’s hope Obama’s brazen attempts to circumvent his constitutional obligations are thwarted.
