Demonstrating an absolutely disgusting and appalling lack of sportsmanship, a European fencing tournament held in Austria (Hitler’s birthplace, I might mention) refused to play Israel’s national anthem when the Israeli fencing team won both the gold and the bronze medals (beating out everyone else in the 28-nation European tournament), claiming that “they only have the old anthem”—a most bizarre and lame excuse considering Israel has only ever had one anthem, from before they even declared nationhood. (Had I been in charge, I would probably have challenged the officials to go ahead and play the “old anthem”…)

Arutz Sheva reports that this isn’t even the first time it has happened. Apparently, the Israeli fencing team has been doubling as the Israeli a capella team for a while now, having faced competition after competition where they were refused their national anthem (as they kept beating all their opponents).

What a bunch of “enlightened” Europeans…
